Chiropractor serving Pontypool, Cwmbran, Newport and surrounding areas --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/about-us/ --- About Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Pontypool, TOR Meet the team at Cymru Chiropractic Clinic We have been serving Pontypool and the neighboring communities since 2005. Our Philosophy Our approach is simple. We believe that health is amongst our most valuable possessions. And while we generally meet people after they’ve lost their health, our commitment is two-fold. 1. Relief Care in Pontypool Many people seek care in our practice and have one goal: relief. So that’s where we start! During this initial stage of intensive care, we have several obligations: Uncover the underlying cause of the health problem Suggest a care plan to produce the fastest results possible Offer ways patients can participate in their recovery Explain the value of post-symptomatic wellness care Relief or wellness care… it’s your choice. 2. Wellness Care in Pontypool We’re committed to teaching our patients that true health is a journey, not a destination. Through educational opportunities (like this website), we hope to communicate the value of ongoing chiropractic care. Our desire is to see our practice members abandon the prevailing sickness care model of health (waiting for symptoms and then taking action), in favour of the emerging wellness model. You’re the Boss Regardless of your health goals, please understand that we see ourselves as mere servants. You’re the boss! It’s your body, your health and your future. Our job is to offer you the finest chiropractic care possible, make appropriate recommendations and work together to achieve your goals. Take the first step towards relief by calling our Pontypool practice today and making an appointment to discuss your health goals. Previous Next Feeling Like A Miracle had Occured I came away from my first appointment with Trevor feeling like a miracle had occurred. My lower back and pelvis were so stiff when I went into the practice and I honestly wasn't sure anything could solve my problem. But Trevor listener and understood my issue and by the end of the appointment, he had me standing up straight for the first time in 2 years without ache or stiffness. Thank you so much. Julie W. Definitely Recommend I come to Trevor with an issue which I have had for a few years. I've always had sports massages to ease the pain but it's always been a temporary fix (2/3 days). I felt so comfortable and at ease during my consultation; Trevor gave me a detailed explanation as to what the issue is, what's causing the pain and options going forward which I easily understood. It's the first time I've felt I'm actually getting my problem area sorted and I wish I had booked an appointment sooner!! I will definitely recommend the practice to family and friends and I can't wait for my next appointment! Anonymous Felt Really at Ease Unsure about what to expect as I'd not seen a chiropractor before but Trevor made me feel really at ease, identified the problems easily, gave really useful guidance on how to help with the injury for before my next appointment and explained things clearly so I had a good understanding of what needed to be done to correct the problem and how the treatment would help. Michael B. Took the Time to Listen Amazing chiropractor! Have only had one visit so far and they completely broke down everything so it was clear and easy to understand. They took the time to listen to my symptoms and was able to tell me what they believed was the problem from their own observations and assessment. Showed excellent knowledge and experience and would definitely recommend & will be going back again. Daniel G. I Will Definitely Be Back I immediately felt very comfortable and safe. Dr. Trevor (Chiropractor) explained everything very clearly and made sure I understood. I will definitely be back for more treatment and will be recommending this clinic to anyone with aches and pains! Thank you! Angie E. I have every Confindence Just like to say thank you for my initial consultation. I was very impressed with the approach to this and Trevor was very keen to listen to my comments relating to my problem and health history. The physical tests were very thorough in assessing my problems and deciding the way forward. I have every confidence that my treatment will be successful. Geoff C. Peace of Mind Just being able to talk to Trevor today has given me some peace of mind. He's listened and understood all my issues and was considerate of my treatment due to me feeling unwell during the appointment. I was given some relief of my symptoms straight away and look forward to my next treatment on Wednesday. The receptionist was lovely too and very easy to talk to and I'm very pleased that I decided to book an appointment at this clinic. Thanks. Stephanie C. Amazing Results Amazing results from my first session! A very friendly, warm and relaxed atmosphere. I felt confident that my issue would be sorted as both my daughter and husband are regular patients with fantastic results. I've suffered with pain and mobility issues in my neck and shoulder for a few years. Also suffered with fuzzy headaches, intermittent visual impairment which I hadn't really considered could be linked to the neck issues. After the initial assessment and treatment I couldn't believe the difference made. Wished I hadn't wasted time with physiotherapy! Now looking forward to my next appointment. Will definitely recommend. Angela B. Pain was Vastly Decreased Chronic ache in my lower back that I had tried to treat with regular painkillers and exercise. It was affecting my working and home life. I am 60 years old and most of it, I assumed was due to my age. 1 visit later, I was on the road back to the old me. Pain was vastly decreased, movement easier and mentally I felt revitalised. 3 visits later no painkillers, walking a neighbours dog and only slight discomfort working 12 hour shifts. I am continuing with once a week treatments because I can feel the benefit with walking, range of movements and pain relief. Janet B. Professional but Friendly and Welcoming I went into my appointment very nervous and came out confident that my condition would improve. Trevor explained everything to me in a clear simple way. The whole practice is very professional but friendly and welcoming. I was given tips on posture etc that has already helped and my treatment continues this week. Helen J. Worked Wonders on Me Really good chiropractor, worked wonders on me, great location of the clinic and the clinic is also very comfortable and welcoming. Staff were helpful, pleasant and professional. I Cannot Wait To Begin My Journey With You Well I can't believe how after all this time I actually am hopeful that it will get better. Louise P. Pain Relief On My First Visit I would recommend this practice to any one who is in pain with back problems, I went after being unable to walk due to back pain for six weeks, on my first visit the pain relief I was given felt like magic, I would not hesitate to use the same practice again. Lynne D. Friendly Professional Service A very friendly and professional service. My 1st experience was taking my elderly mum to see Trevor. He was very helpful, friendly and discreet towards my mum and helped to realise that her hip was the problem and not her back. She subsequently had a very successful hip replacement. Martin C. Confident From The Start I felt confident from the start that all the advice and treatment I received was extremely genuine and tailored to my problem......with perfect results. Sarah A. I have every confidence that the treatment suggested is going to make my life so much more enjoyable being able to do the active things I love. Stephen V. Desperate, then Cured Entered feeling desperate, left knowing I'd be much better, if not completely cured. Clear explanation as to real issue, no need for painkillers, scans etc, just manipulation of joints. Imagine what people spend on poisons for their body: Smoking, alcohol, drugs... Then weigh up visiting your chiropractor to look after your body! Helen D. Amazing Service I felt for the first time in nearly two years that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I came away from my first consultation full of hope. The service I received was amazing and I felt like a person who mattered. Everything was explained thoroughly and I am excited to start treatment. Anna J. I am glad I made that first appointment I was apprehensive on my first visit. However, both receptionists are polite and friendly and together with Dr. Horan (Chiropractor) I was soon put at ease. Dr. Horan (Chiropractor) is very professional and clearly explained the reason for my pain and the treatment I could expect to receive to correct the condition. He assured me that he could help me and by working together, we could relieve the severe pain I was experiencing. I followed Dr. Horan's (Chiropractor) instructions and by the time I attended my second appointment I was already feeling the benefits. I am so glad I made that first appointment and highly recommend Cymru Chiropractic Clinic and Dr. Horan (Chiropractor). Very professional service Full analysis and explanation was given along with details on how to proceed with treatment. I was made to feel welcome and comfortable from the minute I entered the building. I have been highly recommending Cymru Chiropractic to anyone who will listen. Theresa Evans Lower back pain relief with chiropractic I had been off from work for 5 months with low back pain that was not resolving. Trevor was recommended and from the 1st consultation gave me reassurance that my condition would improve. True to his word, he has helped to get me back to work. I continue with monthly treatments which mean that I can carry on work and resume active life as before. Mrs R. Price (Cwmbran) Benefits of chiropractic for children My 10 year old son who is very active & sporty developed a limp which started to affect his sport. His condition was identified and a treatment plan agreed. I am very happy with his progress and the treatment he has received. Trevor is excellent communicating with a child and our visits are now on a maintenance basis. Thank you and I would strongly recommend you to others, without reservation. D.Maclean (Griffithstown) When painkillers don't work... I suffered from back and hip problems for a number of months. Painkillers and relieving gel had very little effect. I was recommended to try Cymru Chiropractic and following my treatment my condition improved considerably. Very impressed with the service provided. Chris Mallett (New Inn) Friendly staff, free from pain I am really pleased with my treatment. After suffering for years with back pain, and now I am free from pain. All the staff are friendly and very kind and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone that has suffered like I have. Mrs M. Wicks (Pontnewynydd) Would recommend to anyone! Walked in with a stiff, painful neck, inability to put on socks or do up shoes. Friendly welcome and correct diagnosis of problem simply explained. Proper estimate of treatment time required and appropriate recommendation for physio treatment to complete process. Professional examination of problem with my gait and appropriate inserts ordered. Happily now signed up for regular monthly check ups. Would recommend to anyone! Terry Cobner (Pontypool) I feel 100% better Came to see the chiropractor with neck & back pain after being given painkillers by my GP. I felt medication wasn't the answer so came here. Apart from the occasional twinge, I feel 100% better as I have never experienced pain like when I first arrived. I had been told before about coming to see a chiropractor but dismissed it, what a mistake, would highly recommend it. Liz Collins (Wainfelin) After years of non-chiropractic treatments, finally something that works for me! After years of seeing consultants at the local hospital, receiving numerous diagnoses and having operations that made no difference, my GP mentioned about trying chiropractic treatment. From the first treatment I felt at ease and was given clear ideas as to what to expect with treatment and results. The difference in me since starting treatment is amazing, I no longer have to live on painkillers and am much more active and pain free. Danielle Stinton (Cwmbran) --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/meet-our-chiropractor/ --- Chiropractor in Pontypool | Dr Trevor Horan Dr Trevor Horan (Chiropractor) Dr Trevor Horan (Chiropractor) has always been passionate about helping people improve their health and achieving goals. Prior to becoming a chiropractor Trevor worked in the world of health and fitness. A qualified swimming teacher, fitness instructor and personal trainer, Trevor has worked up and down the UK helping to inspire people to change to healthier lifestyles and create positive health habits. A History of Health My last position in pre-chiropractic life was as Head of Fitness for a chain of large health clubs. Whilst in this role I met a couple of chiropractors who were health club members. I was amazed and fascinated at their ability to assess people on sight, and was often in awe when hearing tales about their work from satisfied patients who had been treated by them. A short visit was arranged for me to watch them at work in their clinic and I instantly knew that I wanted to become a chiropractor. The rest they say is history. Bringing Chiropractic to Torfaen I studied for my 4 year chiropractic degree at the University of Glamorgan and graduated in 2004. Following graduation, I never made it back over the border as I met a welsh girl, who is now my wife. After working in clinics in South Wales I decided to open Cymru Chiropractic Clinic. Torfaen was chosen because there had never been a registered chiropractor here before. Initially it took a while for people to learn I wasn’t a ‘rub man with a magic sponge’, but since then it has gone from strength to strength. It is immensely satisfying to see the improvements in people and wonderful to see their confidence in us by referring their friends and family. Health is Yours for the Taking! I firmly believe that we all have a responsibility for our own health, after all if we don’t look after ourselves, who will? With each and every patient, we strive to treat the cause not just the symptoms and get the patient to understand that prevention is better than cure. Thank you for visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you. Give our office a call or email me and lets arrange a time for you to start seeing how chiropractic care can help you and your friends and family. Chiropractor Pontypool | 01495 757666 --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/myovision-semg/ --- Myovision sEMG | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic What is the ScanVision Scanning sEMG Exam? The ScanVision utilizes technology similar to the EKG. Instead of measuring heart muscle patters, we measure the muscular compensation about the spine. The ScanVision Scanning sEMG exam is an electronic form of palpation, providing an objective means of quantifying an important measure of spinal health. The exam takes only a couple of minutes. Is it painful? Not at all. It is non-invasive and does not cause pain or irritation. This makes it safe for children, pregnant women and seniors. It simply requires the placement of small electrodes against the skin. Why is muscle activity important? Muscles compensate for pain and/or spinal subluxation by tensing up to brace and guard. The MyoVision objectively documents this pattern of muscular guarding, establishing need for care and tracking progress over time. What do the results mean? Colors indicate level of tension, with green, pink, red and yellow corresponding with average, moderately high, high and very low readings respectively. Percent difference displayed is the difference between left and right sides at the level measured, with arrows pointing the direction of imbalance. Both very high (red) and very low (yellow) readings are significant. High readings (red) are typically seen in the acute phase of spinal subluxation or injury, while very low readings (yellow) are commonly seen when muscles are in a chronic state of fatigue. How does this relate to your health? Just as blood pressure cuff is used to track your cardiovascular health, the MyoVision is used to track your spinal health. The data helps determine the proper course of care and track your progress over time. What is the EP Stress Score? The Electrophysiological (EP) Stress Score is calculated by adding up all muscle activity readings for both left and right sides at all levels of the spine. This sum of all muscle activity about the spine provides a baseline measurement for which all subsequent readings are compared. This allows us to track your progress over time with a simple single number. This number means very little on its own. The first reading is used to create a baseline. All subsequent readings are compared with the baseline for the purpose of tracking progress. Elevated EP Stress Score readings on a first exam are associated with the acute state of subluxation and/or spinal health. Readings typically will drop after 4-6 weeks of care. Low EP Stress Score readings on a first exam are associated with a chronic problem, with muscles in a state of fatigue. Expect your EP Stress Score to increase, as muscles begin to fire more normally. Since no one lives static lives, expect your EP Stress Score to reflect your activities of daily living. Everything from sitting at the computer too long to playing sports will impact your score. Massage Therapy | Pontypool TOR | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/gaitscan-orthotics/ --- Pontypool Orthotics, Pontypool | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic 01495 757666 Gaitscan Orthotics At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic we like to focus on the cause of your problem not just the symptoms. In many cases the cause of knee, back and even neck pain can be found at the foundations of your body – your feet. Your feet have a direct impact on the rest of your body. Like the foundation of a building, your feet support the weight of everything above them. When a small problem develops in your feet, the subtle change in the way you walk will cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics. These changes can put stress on joints higher up in your body, and can lead to more serious problems. What are Orthotics? Prescription orthotics look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes – they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. Orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole does. How do they help? Properly made orthotics are custom molded to support the requirements of your feet. They help restore the normal balance and alignment of your body by gently correcting foot abnormalities. The Orthotic Group (TOG) orthotics are a pleasure to wear as they gently reduce problems associated with pressure points, muscle strain and abnormal forces on the ankles, knees, hips and spine. How we assess you? All we need you to do is to walk (barefooted) over a computerized pressure plate that is linked to a computer. As you walk across the plate, over 4000 sensors capture the distribution of pressure throughout the sole of your foot. The computer then displays on its screen, 2-D and 3-D representations of the pressures under your feet. These findings are important in evaluating your foot function and in determining if the symptoms you are experiencing are related to faulty foot mechanics. Foot Facts 25% of the bones in your body are in your feet. The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day. The average person will walk over 100,000 miles in their lifetime, or more than 4 trips around the world. More than 75% of people will experience foot problems in their lifetime --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/what-to-expect/ --- What to Expect | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic You will immediately feel at home the moment you walk in the door. We always ask patients to arrive 5-10 minutes early on their first appointment to allow time to complete your new patient forms. On your first visit the aim is to find out what exactly is the root cause of your problem. We understand that people sometimes get anxious or nervous, but remember we excel at putting people at ease. You will find all of the team, friendly, professional and approachable. Your first visit will normally last 45 minutes. We insist on taking this time to allow a thorough consultation. During that time your Chiropractor will take a full medical, presenting symptom and lifestyle history perform a thorough physical, orthopaedic and neurological examination arrange for x-rays or MRI scan if necessary refer you to another health professional if Chiropractic care is not suitable for you. set health goals and targets for your treatment At the end of your first appointment your chiropractor will be able to tell you if chiropractic care is suitable for you and your complaint. If it is then we will make arrangements for you to return to the clinic as soon as possible to begin treatment. Often following examination, patients may be a little ‘achey’, for that reason we generally do not treat on the same day as examination, as it can be counterproductive. Initial visits depend on the level of your problem, following that, with regular visits you can expect to be in and out of the clinic within 15 minutes. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/second-visit/ --- Chiropractors Pontypool - Second Visit Your Second Visit to Cymru Chiropractic Clinic On your report visit we explain what we found and how we may be able to help you. Your second visit is ideally within two days of your first visit and is approximately 30mins. We always recommend that you bring somebody close to you to this appointment, to be an extra pair of ears and eyes. During that time your Chiropractor will clearly explain: what they found in your examination and what it means the results of your x-rays or MRI scan (if taken) your proposed treatment plan any lifestyle changes that need to be addressed We will take our time at this stage in explaining our findings to you. We know through experience that patients who fully understand their problem, not only get better quicker, but also stay better longer. We actively encourage questions, more the better, remember ‘knowledge is power’ and the better you understand your problem, and how we aim to treat it, the more in control you will be. If you are happy with everything at this point, then we can actively start the process of getting you better there and then and give you your first treatment. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/prescription-exercises-login/ --- Prescription Exercises Login | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Copyright Legal Privacy Accessibility Sitemap Chiropractic Websites by Perfect Patients --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/info/privacy/ --- Privacy | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Privacy Policy This Privacy Policy applies to the Cymru Chiropractic Clinic website. Updated: January 2018 --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/how-you-breathe-may-be-affecting-your-posture/ --- How You Breathe May Be Affecting Your Posture Published on 31/03/2026 Most people think of posture as something you fix by sitting up straighter or pulling your shoulders back. But there’s a factor that shapes how you hold yourself all day long, and it’s one you’re repeating about 20,000 times a day without a second thought. It’s your breathing pattern. The way you breathe and the way you carry yourself are more closely linked than most people realise. Understanding that connection can be genuinely useful both for how your body feels, and how it moves. Breathing Mechanics and Your Spine When you take a full, relaxed breath, your diaphragm (the dome-shaped muscle sitting just below your lungs) contracts downward, creating space for the lungs to expand. Your ribcage moves gently outward, and your shoulders stay relatively still. This is called diaphragmatic breathing, and it’s what your body is designed to do. The problem is that many people shift away from this natural pattern over time without realising it. What Happens When We Shift to Chest Breathing Stress, long hours at a desk, or simply a habit formed over time can push breathing upward into the chest and shoulders. In chest breathing, the diaphragm does less work, and the neck and shoulder muscles pick up the slack. Over time, those muscles become overworked and tight, directly affecting the position of the head, neck, and upper spine. This is why people who breathe primarily through their chest often develop tension in the upper shoulders, tightness across the upper back, and a tendency to hold the head slightly forward. Your breath and the posture reinforce each other in a loop that’s easy to overlook. How Breathing Affects the Lower Back The diaphragm doesn’t work in isolation. It connects through fascia (the web of connective tissue that runs throughout the body) to the muscles of the lower back and pelvis. When the diaphragm isn’t doing its job fully, those lower structures often compensate. For some people, shallow breathing patterns contribute to a kind of low-grade lower back tightness that doesn’t seem to have an obvious cause. A Simple Way to Check Your Own Pattern Try this: place one hand on your chest and one on your belly. Take a normal breath. Which hand moves first, and most? If it’s the chest hand, you’re likely a chest breather. This isn’t a diagnosis, just a useful thing to notice. Practicing slow, belly-first breaths for even a few minutes per day can help retrain the pattern over time. Making It Part of Your Care If you’ve been dealing with neck tension, upper back tightness, or unexplained lower back discomfort, your breathing pattern may be worth exploring as part of the picture. At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, we look at the whole body, not just the symptom in isolation. If you’d like to talk through what might be contributing to how you’re feeling, we’d be glad to help. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/sitemap/ --- Sitemap | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Copyright Legal Privacy Accessibility Sitemap Chiropractic Websites by Perfect Patients --- https://demo.perfectpatients.com/info/legal-disclaimer/ --- Legal Disclaimer | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic The information contained in this Site is for general guidance on matters of health interest only. But did you know that the discs in your spine are among the most water-dependent structures in your entire body? And, the effects of not drinking enough water can show up in your back before they show up anywhere else. Understanding Spinal Discs Between each pair of vertebrae sits a disc – a small, tough structure that acts as a cushion and shock absorber. Each disc has two main parts: a firm outer ring made of fibrous cartilage, and a soft, gel-like middle called the nucleus pulposus. That gel is made up of roughly 70-90% water. Without adequate hydration, it can’t do its important job of cushioning and protecting your spine. Your Daily Disc Cycle Here’s something most people don’t know: your spinal discs lose water throughout the day simply from the pressure of being upright. When you stand, sit, and move, the weight of your body compresses the discs and slowly pushes fluid out of them. While you sleep and the load comes off your spine, the discs reabsorb fluid and plump back up. This is actually why you’re slightly taller in the morning than you are by evening! The problem comes when your body doesn’t have enough fluid available to properly rehydrate those discs overnight, or when you spend long hours compressed without adequate movement in between. What Dehydrated Discs Feel Like When discs don’t have enough water content, they become thinner and less able to absorb impact. This can contribute to a feeling of stiffness, particularly in the morning or after long stretches of sitting; and increases the strain on the vertebrae and surrounding tissues. Over time, chronically dehydrated discs are more vulnerable to wear and breakdown. You may not feel this as dramatic pain. Dehydrated discs often show up as that low-level ache or tightness that’s hard to explain, or a back that just doesn’t feel as resilient as it used to. Small Habits That Make a Real Difference Consistent water intake throughout the day is the most direct way to support disc health. This doesn’t mean just a large glass in the morning and another at night. Moving regularly also helps, as gentle movement encourages fluid circulation through the discs. Prolonged sitting compresses spinal discs without the opportunity for rehydration, which is why taking short breaks to stand and move every hour genuinely matters. We’re Here When You Need Support If your back has been feeling stiff, achy, or less resilient than you’d expect, there may be more contributing factors than you realise, and hydration is just one piece of the picture. The team at Cymru Chiropractic Clinic would be glad to take a closer look and help you understand what’s going on. Reach out anytime to schedule a visit. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/why-you-wake-up-stiff-even-after-8-hours-of-sleep/ --- Why You Wake Up Stiff (Even After 8 Hours of Sleep) Published on 12/03/2026 You got your full eight hours, yet when your alarm goes off, your body feels locked in position. Your neck is tight, your back aches, and it takes ten minutes of moving around before you feel remotely human. If this sounds familiar, you’re right to wonder why quality sleep doesn’t always lead to waking up refreshed. How you sleep matters just as much as how long you sleep. Your Spine Doesn’t Actually Rest While You Sleep While you’re asleep, your body is in sustained positions for hours at a time. Unlike during the day when you’re constantly shifting positions, nighttime keeps you relatively stationary. Muscles held in shortened positions for hours can develop stiffness. Joints held at awkward angles can become compressed or irritated. The Sleep Position Problem Stomach sleeping is the most problematic position for your spine. Your neck has to rotate sharply to one side for hours, creating significant strain. Your lower back also tends to arch excessively. Back sleeping is generally the most spine-friendly position, allowing your head, neck, and spine to rest in neutral alignment. However, your pillow should support the natural curve of your neck without pushing your head too far forward. Side sleeping can be excellent or terrible depending on the details. If your pillow is too low, your head tilts down toward the mattress. If it’s too high, your head tilts up. Your top leg also tends to pull your pelvis forward and twist your lower back unless you place a pillow between your knees. The Mattress Factor A mattress that’s too soft allows your body to sink in unevenly, creating a curved spine position. A mattress that’s too firm doesn’t accommodate your body’s natural curves. Most mattresses have a useful life of about seven to ten years—if yours is older, it’s likely lost much of its support. Solutions That Work Evaluate your sleep position and make adjustments. Use pillows strategically—between your knees when side sleeping, under your knees when back sleeping. Assess your pillow honestly to ensure it keeps your head aligned with your spine. If your mattress is old or clearly unsupportive, prioritise replacing it. Gentle stretching before bed can also prevent muscles from tightening up overnight. Morning stiffness that persists despite these changes deserves professional evaluation. At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, we can assess your spinal health and help you wake up feeling refreshed instead of rigid. Schedule your evaluation today and discover what mornings can feel like when your spine is properly aligned. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/could-your-afternoon-headaches-be-coming-from-your-neck/ --- Could Your Afternoon Headaches Be Coming From Your Neck? Published on 02/03/2026 It’s 2 or 3 PM, and right on schedule, that familiar tension builds at the base of your skull. You reach for pain relievers, assuming it’s stress or eye strain. But what if your recurring afternoon headaches aren’t starting in your head at all? Understanding Cervicogenic Headaches Cervicogenic headaches originate from problems in the cervical spine—your neck. The pain you feel in your head is actually referred pain from irritated nerves, tight muscles, or misaligned joints in your neck and upper back. How to Tell if Your Neck is the Problem Cervicogenic headaches typically start at the base of the skull and may spread to one side of the head. They often feel like a deep ache or pressure. If your headaches are accompanied by neck stiffness or if moving your neck triggers the headache, a cervical origin is likely. Timing matters too. If your headaches consistently emerge after hours at your computer or looking down at your phone, this pattern suggests a cervicogenic component. The Desk Work Connection Forward head posture is devastating for your neck. Your head weighs about as much as a bowling ball in a neutral position, but at a 45-degree forward tilt—common when looking at a laptop—your neck is supporting nearly five times that weight. Eventually, those muscles fatigue and compress the joints and nerves in your cervical spine. The result? Headaches. Solutions Beyond Pain Medication Your monitor should be at eye level, positioned an arm’s length away. Set a timer to stand and move every 30-45 minutes. Targeted stretches like chin tucks help counteract forward head posture. When Professional Help is Needed Persistent afternoon headaches that don’t respond to ergonomic changes may indicate spinal misalignments that need professional attention. At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, we can help identify whether your neck is the source of your headaches and provide relief that lasts. Contact us today to schedule an evaluation and take the first step toward headache-free afternoons. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/why-your-body-adapts-to-discomfort/ --- Why Your Body Adapts to Discomfort Published on 27/01/2026 One of the most surprising things about the human body is how well it adapts—even when something isn’t quite right. If you’ve had tightness, aches, or recurring discomfort for a while, you may have noticed something odd: it doesn’t always feel “bad” all the time. In fact, sometimes it becomes so normal you stop noticing it. That’s not because the issue has disappeared. It’s because your body has learned to work around it. What Adaptation Really Looks Like When a joint isn’t moving well or certain muscles stay tight, your body often compensates. That can show up as: Shifting your weight to one side Turning your head slightly differently while driving Standing with one hip higher Using your shoulders instead of your upper back for movement Avoiding certain movements without realising it These adjustments can help you keep moving—but they can also place extra strain on other areas over time. Why It Matters Long-Term When your body compensates for too long, it can create a ripple effect. A problem that starts in one area may eventually contribute to discomfort elsewhere. For example: A stiff upper back may lead to more neck tension Limited hip movement may increase strain in the lower back Ongoing muscle guarding may contribute to fatigue and reduced mobility This is one reason people often say, “I don’t know why it’s hurting here—I didn’t do anything.” Sometimes the “why” has been building over time. How Chiropractic Care Can Help Chiropractic care focuses on supporting healthy movement and function, so your body doesn’t have to keep working around restrictions. Many people notice they move more freely, feel less tight, and recover more easily once those compensation patterns start to unwind. If discomfort has become your normal, it may be worth checking in. At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, we take the time to understand how your body is moving and where it may be overcompensating—so we can help support better function from the ground up. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2026-april/ --- April 2026 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic The Case for Chiropractic First When back pain strikes, reaching for a pill is many people’s first instinct. But research is painting an even more encouraging picture for patients who choose chiropractic care. A large-scale study published in October 2025 found that patients who received chiropractic adjustments for low back pain were significantly less likely to develop opioid use disorder than those who relied on pain medication alone. This reinforces what we see every day in practice: that restoring movement and addressing the root cause of pain can make a real difference, without the side effects that come with long-term medication use. If you have friends or family dealing with back pain and wondering where to start, this research is worth sharing. Conservative care is increasingly recognized as a smart first step. Chiropractic Care and Your Whole-Person Health Chiropractic has always been rooted in a simple idea: that the body works best when all its systems are connected and communicating well. That philosophy fits naturally into what modern medicine is increasingly calling “whole-person health.” Whole-person care considers more than symptoms. It looks at how movement, stress, sleep, and lifestyle all influence how you feel. When your spine moves well, your nervous system functions more efficiently. When your nervous system functions better, it can positively affect everything from energy levels to how your body handles stress. This is why many patients notice improvements beyond just the pain or tension that first brought them in. Better sleep. Clearer head. More ease in daily movement. These aren’t coincidences… they reflect how deeply connected your spine and overall well-being really are. We’re proud to be part of your broader health picture, not just a solution for when something hurts. How Wearable Tech Is Changing the Way We Support Your Spine Fitness trackers, smartwatches, and posture-correcting wearables have gone from novelty to everyday tool, and that’s good news for your spinal health. These devices can now track movement patterns, alert you to prolonged sitting, and even provide real-time posture feedback throughout your day. For many of us, this kind of awareness can be a huge help. These wearables keep you tuned in to how your body is moving (or not) between visits. When you bring that awareness to your appointments, it helps us make more targeted adjustments to your care. You don’t need the latest device to benefit. Even setting simple reminders on your phone to move, stretch, or check your posture can shift your habits in meaningful ways. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2026-march/ --- March 2026 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Why Your Posture Changes When You’re Stressed (And What That Does to Your Body) When you’re under pressure, your shoulders often round forward. Your head drifts slightly ahead of your body. Breathing becomes shallower. Muscles around the neck and upper back tighten without you even realising it. The problem? When stress becomes ongoing, that protective posture can stick. Over time, forward head position and rounded shoulders can strain the muscles that support your spine. Joints don’t move as smoothly. You may notice tension headaches, upper back stiffness, or that constant “tight” feeling between your shoulder blades. Your spine and nervous system are closely connected. When your body stays in a guarded posture, it can reinforce that stressed, on-alert feeling. Improving spinal mobility and awareness can help your body shift out of that braced position-and care with us can help! Why Balance Is a Skill (And How Your Spine Supports It) Whether you’re walking on uneven ground, reaching overhead, or turning quickly, your body constantly adjusts to keep you upright. That coordination depends on communication between your eyes, inner ear, joints, and nervous system. Your spine plays a central role in that process. Spinal joints provide feedback to your brain about where your body is in space. When those joints move well, signals travel clearly. When motion is restricted, that feedback can become less precise. Other areas may compensate, making balance feel slightly off or less steady. This isn’t just important for athletes. Balance supports everyday confidence — climbing stairs, stepping off curbs, or carrying groceries. As we age, maintaining balance becomes even more valuable. Improving joint mobility, posture awareness, and core stability all contribute to steadiness. If you’ve noticed subtle changes in coordination or feel less stable than you used to, your spine may be part of the conversation. The Hidden Impact of Long Commutes on Your Spine When you sit in a car, your hips stay flexed, your low back absorbs vibration from the road, and your head subtly shifts forward to focus on traffic. Add in gripping the steering wheel & sitting slightly rotated toward pedals, and you have a position your body holds for extended periods. Over time, this can contribute to hip tightness, low back stiffness, and upper neck tension. Because movement is minimal, the supporting muscles may fatigue from holding you upright rather than actively moving. Another factor? Road vibration. It travels through the seat into your spine. While subtle, repeated exposure can contribute to joint irritation — especially if mobility is already limited. Adjustments like seat position, lumbar support, and posture awareness help. So does restoring movement after long drives. Spinal checks can also help ensure small restrictions don’t become bigger issues. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2026-february/ --- February 2026 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic What Your Spine Has to Do With Energy Levels Feeling drained isn’t always about sleep or motivation. When your body is stiff, tense, or moving poorly, everyday tasks can take more effort than they should. That “working harder” feeling adds up—especially if you sit for long stretches, carry stress in your shoulders, or notice frequent tightness in your back or hips. Your spine plays a key role in how efficiently your body moves. When spinal joints aren’t moving well, other areas often compensate. Muscles stay switched “on” longer, posture becomes harder to maintain, and you may burn energy just trying to stay comfortable. Over time, that can leave you feeling worn out—even on days that don’t seem physically demanding. Regular chiropractic care helps improve mobility and reduce tension patterns that keep your body on high alert. Many patients also notice they move more freely, feel less “heavy,” and recover better between busy days. Why Stretching Alone Isn’t Always Enough Stretching is one of the most common “go-to” fixes for stiffness. And it can help—especially when muscles are genuinely short or overworked. But if you’re stretching regularly and still feel tight in the same places, you’re not doing anything wrong. You may just be stretching the symptom, not the source. Sometimes what feels like muscle tightness is actually joint restriction. When a joint isn’t moving properly—often in the spine—nearby muscles may tighten up to protect the area. Your body uses tension as a stabiliser. That’s why you might stretch your hamstrings every day but still feel pulling in your low back, or roll your shoulders constantly but never quite shake the neck tension. Chiropractic care focuses on restoring motion where it’s limited, so your muscles don’t have to “brace” as much. When joints move better, muscles often relax naturally, and stretching starts to feel more effective. If tightness keeps coming back, let’s look deeper than flexibility alone. Book a visit and we’ll help you find the real reason your body is holding on. The Weekend Warrior Problem It’s easy to fall into the weekend warrior routine—long days of sitting, then a big burst of activity when free time finally hits. A long hike, a hard gym session, a pickup game, or a full day of yard work can feel productive… until your body reminds you it hasn’t been building up to that load. Injuries often happen when the demand suddenly outpaces what your joints and muscles are prepared for. When movement is inconsistent, your body has less chance to adapt. That can show up as tight hips, cranky low back, sore shoulders, or knee and ankle irritation—especially if your spine isn’t moving as smoothly as it should. Your spine supports balance, coordination, and shock absorption. If spinal motion is restricted, other areas may work harder to stabilize you during activity. Want to stay active without the setbacks? A chiropractic check can help you move better, recover faster, and keep your routine consistent. --- https://www.chiropatient.com/diversified/ --- Diversified | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Diversified Technique At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, one of the many adjustment styles we use is referred to as Diversified. Among the most popular chiropractic techniques, this hands-on approach allows us to manually adjust your spinal bones into proper position. Diversified can be successful in helping patients of all ages and stages get back to living the life they love, naturally. What to Expect First, an analysis of your spine is performed. This can initially involve a case history and X-ray pictures of your spine. Subsequent visits may include motion palpation, with the chiropractor feeling the spinal joints move as you turn and bend. Or, a leg check may be performed, to uncover an imbalance in the neck or lower spine. When misaligned spinal bones are identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics. The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. There’s no need to worry or be frightened about this–in fact, most patients find adjustments relaxing and relieving! What are the Benefits? While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion. Simply put, many patients find that it’s easier to carry out tasks in their daily life without noticing pain, aches or other problems. We look forward to welcoming you and your family! --- https://www.chiropatient.com/activator/ --- Activator Methods® | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Activator Technique® We’re proud to use one of the most popular “low force” chiropractic techniques in the world. With the Activator® handheld instrument, we can provide precise, gentle adjustments where and when you need it most. This technique is often ideal for patients of all ages and walks of life. Children love our “clicker instrument”, and seniors can comfortably be adjusted more accurately using less energy. We know you’ll love it as much as we do! What to Expect The Activator Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high-speed thrust. It also makes the directed energy more precise, given at the exact angle necessary to best add motion to a joint. Because it’s many times faster than adjustments delivered by hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective. It’s also helpful for adjusting elbows, wrists, knees and other joints of the body. The best part? If you’re nervous about ‘cracking’, don’t be–there’s no popping sounds to be heard in this type of adjustment. The Follow Up After your adjustment, we retest to make sure the desired changes have been produced. Testing afterwards helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of patient satisfaction. Walking strengthens the muscles that support your spine Healthy Steps Everyday Your trunk, core, and lumbar (lower back) muscles play a vital role in maintaining the stability and movement of your lower back. These muscles can become deconditioned and weak from a sedentary lifestyle, causing malalignment of the spine. Over a period of time, there may be an increase in muscular weakness, fatigue, injury, and pain. The overall mass of your spinal muscles may also reduce. When you walk, the health of your back muscles is improved in the following ways: Increases blood flow. Decreased physical activity can cause the small blood vessels of your spine to become constricted, reducing blood flow to the spinal muscles. Walking helps open up the blood vessels, increasing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to these muscles. Flushes out toxins. Muscles produce physiologic toxins when they contract and expand. Over time, these toxins can accumulate within the lower back muscle tissues and cause stiffness. Walking helps flush out these toxins and improve flexibility. These factors combine to help build strength in the muscles of your lower back, adding to the strength and integrity of your lower back. 2. Walking increases flexibility in your lower back Lack of physical activity can cause the muscles and joints in your lower back and hips to become stiff. This stiffness creates increased pressure on the lumbar spine (lower back), altering its normal curvature. Walking increases your flexibility by stretching the muscles and ligaments in the back, legs, and buttocks. When you walk, specific muscles, such as your hamstrings, erector muscles of the spine, and hip flexor muscles are activated and stretched. The flexibility of your spinal ligaments and tendons is also increased, improving the overall range of motion in your lower back. Additional health benefits of walking While walking can help improve function in your lower back, it also has other health benefits. Committing to a regular walking program may help. Reduce and/or maintain an optimal weight Keep blood pressure under control Improve the levels of total cholesterol Decrease anxiety and depression Reduce the risk of heart disease and dementia Walking also helps increase the production of endorphins (natural pain-inhibiting hormone), decreasing the overall perception of pain. Moving forward to better health Tips to prevent lower back pain while walking Your walking-pace and duration depend on your level of tolerance. Follow these tips if you have chronic lower back pain: Start with a short, 5 to 10-minute walk every day and gradually work your way up. You may also use a treadmill or an elliptical machine based on your preference. Always use correct posture while walking by keeping your spine naturally curved. Walk tall, imagine you are half an inch taller, your shoulders must be relaxed with your head balanced on top of your spine (and not flexed forward). The key to any walking program is to start right away. Regular walking can have immediate as well as long-term effects in improving the health of your lower back tissues, restoring function, and preventing pain. We’ve got 10 great tips to help you stay focused and achieve your personal goals in 2019. What are your New Years Resolutions? 1. Document your Plans and Progress Write your plans and intentions down in pen and ink, so you’ll be able to reference them at any point. Tracking your progress by keeping a journal and taking pictures at different stages of the journey, can really help to envisage how the end result will change your life. 2. Start Early If your ready to make a change, why wait until New Year’s Eve to start planning your resolutions? Use the few lull days between Christmas and New Year wisely, to really think through the changes that you want to make. Remember the 5 P’s…Perfect Planning Prevents Poor Performance! 3. Reward Yourself Give yourself a little treat, once you’ve reached certain milestone with your progress. Give yourself a rest day from thinking about your mission. Or why not give yourself a reward based around health and well being? A spa day, a massage or something that relaxes you. This will help give you extra grit and determination when your finding it difficult to stay focused. 4. Don’t live in the past Past resolution haven’t worked out, for whatever reason. So the likelihood is, they won’t work for you this time. Make it a brand new resolution! If you’ve tried to lose weight before, and that is your goal again this year..reshape the resolution. Instead of setting a strict target and a goal weight, try cutting out snacks and just sticking to meals only. This will be far less punishing, more realistic and the weight will drop off. It’s a new year, a fresh start, so set new life goals. 5. Check List There’s no denying the power of a list! Many people can’t live without a list of some sort. A shopping list, a Christmas present list, a ‘to do’ list. It focuses the million and one things going on in your mind, directly onto the tasks in hand. Break down the resolutions you have made, make a list and feel that rush of accomplishment as you strike off each item! 6. Be Unique It’s easy to follow the crowd with resolutions. As individuals, other people inspire us, but it’s easy to get lost in unrealistic thoughts, when you start comparing your goals and ambitions to others. Nobody knows you, like you. Channel in on what you want to and can achieve, listen to yourself and your needs from life. Then set your own resolutions from there. It’s guaranteed to be far more effective that trying to achieve the goals of others. 7. Keep It Simple. Life is complicated enough as it is, and change requires hard work, dedication and energy. Don’t be over ambitious with your resolutions, focus on just one or maybe two aspects of your life that you want to change. If you think about just making one change throughout year for the better, isn’t that a great result? Giving up alcohol and sugar full stop will be highly unlikely to be achievable. Only having alcohol on the weekend and having just one treat day a week is far more realistic. 8. Share Your Goals Let friends and family know how seriously you want to make these changes and ask them to encourage you when it gets tough. If you increase your support network, you’ll reduce the risk of failure. Good friends will always want the best for you, so turn to those when you feel like your self motivation is taking a dip. 9. Don’t Give Up If you manage to see your resolution through, with no slip ups, that’s great! But most of us will revert to old habits every now and again, especially at the beginning. Don’t underestimate how hard it is to change a habit. But equally do not be hard on yourself if you do lose track. This is when you really start to build your strength in character. Forgive yourself for the wobble and start back on your mission with added determination the next day. 10. Keep Picturing the End Result Keep the image of your final goal fixed in your mind. There is a tendency to allow that image to fade, once the initial adrenaline rush of setting the resolution fizzles out. Don’t allow yourself to lose sight of the reward waiting for you at the end of your tough journey. Picture it for 30 seconds every morning when you wake up and 30 seconds before you go to bed. Leave a reminders around your home, little prompts to take your mind back there. We wish you all the best of luck in achieving your New Year resolutions. Your body is something that should always be cared for. Published on 09/04/2019 People in Wales are encouraged to stay active. British Chiropractic Association (BCA) discovers half of people in Wales fail to prevent or manage back pain 25% of people in Wales don’t take any steps to look after their back health This Chiropractic Awareness Week (8th – 14th April) the BCA is encouraging people in Wales to keeping moving, after finding that 25% of people in Wales don’t take any steps to look after their back health. The findings come from a survey conducted by the BCA, which unearthed that 25% of people in Wales don’t take any action when they experience back or neck pain and 10% wouldn’t seek help from a health professional if they were experiencing these issues. Chiropractic Awareness Week aims to educate people about the easy ways they can avoid or alleviate back pain, which on average 80% of the nation has experienced. Regularly changing posture and remaining seated for no longer than 30 minutes at a time are just a couple of the simple ways to prevent or reduce pressure on the back. According to the BCA’s survey, when it comes to back and neck pain, they found that people in Wales: – 40% don’t take any steps to look after their back health – Only 60% have taken preventative steps to protect themselves from back or neck pain – 80% have experienced back or neck pain – 10% wouldn’t seek help for back pain and 39% would wait a month or longer – Only 14% would make changes to their daily routine if experiencing back or neck pain – 28% choose their mattresses bases on price, rather than comfort Local chiropractor, Dr Trevor Horan from Cymru Chiropractic Clinic in Pontypool, commented on the findings: “There are so many people in Wales living with neck or back pain because they don’t know what preventative steps they can take, so we want to shine a light on the simple changes which can help. Chiropractic Awareness Week is designed to educate everyone on the best ways to prevent and tackle back or neck pain, from changing up your posture when sat at a desk, to sleeping on the right mattress.” “Easy changes to your day-to-day life can make a significant difference, but if your pain doesn’t reduce or is prolonged, you should always see a health professional for further guidance.” The BCA’s top tips for keeping on top of neck and back pain include: Keep on moving: Physical activity can be beneficial for managing back pain, however it’s important that if this is of a moderate to high intensity that you warm up and down properly to get your body ready to move! If a previous injury is causing you pain, adapt your exercise or seek some advice. Activities such as swimming, walking or yoga can be less demanding on your body, while keeping you mobile! Take a break: When sitting for long periods of time, ensure you stand up and move around every 30 minutes. When at work, also make sure your desk is set up to support a comfortable position. This is different for everyone so if you don’t feel comfortable in your current set up, try altering the height of your chair or screen. Lifting and carrying: Remember to bend from the knees, not the waist when lifting heavy items. Face in the direction of movement and take your time. Hold the object as close to your body as possible, and where you can avoid carrying objects which are too heavy to manage alone, ask for help or use the necessary equipment. Sleep comfortably: The Sleep Council recommends buying a new mattress at least every 7 years. Mattresses lose their support over time, so if you can feel the springs through your mattress, or the mattress is no longer level, your mattress is no longer providing the support you need. Everyone has different support requirements, so when purchasing your mattress ensure it is supportive for you. If you share a bed and require different mattress types, consider two single mattresses which are designed to be joined together, to ensure you both get the support you need. Straighten Up!: The BCA has created a programme of three-minute exercises, Straighten Up UK, which can be slotted in to your daily schedule to help prevent back pain by promoting movement, balance, strength and flexibility in the spine. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/7-simple-steps-to-prepare-your-body-for-winter/ --- Health and Wellness Published on 14/11/2018 Winter is well and truly upon us, and it’s more important than ever to take care of your body during the cold winter months. Here are 7 simple steps to help prepare you for the cold season, in order to keep your mind and body in top shape: Keep you and your family well this winter 1 – Get Plenty of Sleep Limited daylight can make you feel much sleepier than usual. Getting a good night’s sleep is key to storing enough energy to remain energised throughout the day. Try keeping to a regular pattern, even on weekends. Avoid naps and practise relaxation techniques to ensure your body can rest, repair and recharge for at least 8 hours a night. 2- Wear Good Footwear Icy conditions can be a common cause of many breaks, sprains and bruises during winter. We still have to go about our daily business, even when the weather presents challenging conditions. You can minimise the threat significantly by investing in a good pair of shoes with a reliable tread. If you’re not confident with your balance, a walking stick or pole could help to provide extra stability. 3- Get some Vitamin D We’ve been hearing for years about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) but it actually affects many of us. The days becoming gloomier and shorter can make you feel lethargic and low, so try to see some daylight at least once a day. Also try brightening your home up with more lamps! 4- Ease your Aches and Pains When it’s cold, muscles can often feel stiff and move less well than usual, making it harder to get up and get going in the mornings during the winter. Other common joint issues are stiffness and tension. If your joints start to suffer, it’s a good idea to get adjusted by your Chiropractor and even have regular massages. 5- Stay Hydrated We tend to be much better at drinking water in the summer months, but it’s equally as important to keep up those good habits during winter. Our body breathes, urinates and sweats regularly, so as tempting as bottomless cups of hot tea and coffee are during the cold season, it’s vital to remember to take in enough water. Dehydration can cause dry skin, blurry vision, dizziness and fatigue. If your struggling to manage sufficient water intake, foods such as apples, melon, celery, cucumber and soups can help to supply your body with more water. 6- Exercise We all have those days where we just want to hibernate and stay under the duvet all day, especially in winter time. But beat that urge and get into a regular exercise routine (even if it’s gentle), and you’ll keep your metabolism working hard to ensure that your gut and immune system and fuelled to keep you healthy. Why not try a yoga or Pilates class, great for the mind, body and soul? 7- Stay Warm & Cosy So, winter presents itself with a whole load of challenges, which can inhibit us from keeping healthy. But let’s not forget what we all love about winter…it’s cosy! Lighting fires and candles, wrapping up in woolly blankets, hot chocolate and eating warm homemade meals, can relieve the body of stress and make us feel relaxed. Your body needs time to adapt to new demands, especially if you’ve been less active. Common mistakes include doing too much volume too soon, skipping warm-ups, ignoring proper form, and pushing through pain instead of recognising warning signals. Your spine plays a central role in nearly every exercise. When spinal joints aren’t moving properly, your body compensates by overworking other areas, increasing injury risk. A pre-workout chiropractic check ensures your foundation is solid before adding new physical stress. If you’re launching a new routine this year, schedule a visit to make sure your spine is ready to support your goals. We’re here to help you start strong and stay consistent! The Fresh-Start Desk Setup If you spend hours at a desk, small ergonomic improvements can dramatically reduce strain on your spine, neck, and shoulders. January is perfect for refreshing your workspace. Start with these adjustments: position your monitor at arm’s length with the top at or slightly below eye level. Keep your keyboard close so elbows stay near your body at 90 degrees. Adjust your chair so feet rest flat and thighs are parallel to the floor. Use lumbar support to maintain your lower back’s natural curve. Did you know that for every inch your neck shifts forward and out of proper posture, the strain on your spine doubles? If you use a laptop regularly, add an external keyboard and raise the screen to eye-level. Remember the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds and shift position. Need personalized advice? We’re happy to discuss your setup! Why Wellness Goals Fail (And How Your Spine Can Help Them Stick) Most New Year’s resolutions fade by mid-February—not from lack of willpower, but because the physical foundation isn’t there. When your body feels stiff, achy, or constantly fatigued, even simple goals feel harder than they should. If standing to prep meals causes back pain, you’ll order takeout. If morning stiffness makes getting up difficult, that early workout won’t happen. Regular chiropractic care removes these obstacles by improving mobility, reducing tension that drains energy, supporting better sleep, and enhancing body awareness. When your body feels good, consistency becomes easier. Ready to set yourself up for success? Let’s talk about how chiropractic care fits into your wellness plan this year! --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/a-new-year-reset-that-feels-good/ --- A New Year Reset That Feels Good Published on 23/12/2025 New year energy can feel exciting…and a little intense. Suddenly it’s calendar upgrades, big plans, and the urge to overhaul everything overnight. But if your body is already carrying tension from long days, busy schedules, or too much screen time, the best “reset” might be a simpler one. Instead of chasing a perfect routine, try focusing on a steady body and a calmer baseline. When your body feels supported, it’s easier to follow through on the habits you want to keep. Start With the Signals, Not the Pressure If you’ve been waking up stiff, feeling tight through the shoulders, or noticing little aches that come and go, your body may be asking for more support—not more willpower. Stress, sitting posture, and repetitive movement patterns can add up quietly. You might not even notice how much you’re compensating until you finally slow down. A good New Year reset isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about tuning in. Small Shifts That Make a Big Difference You don’t need a complete lifestyle makeover to feel better. Try a few gentle changes that are easy to repeat: Create a “posture checkpoint”: Pick one daily trigger—making coffee, opening your laptop, brushing your teeth—and use it as a reminder to roll your shoulders back and lengthen your spine. Add two minutes of movement: A short walk, a few stretches, or a quick mobility routine can help your body feel less “stuck.” Build a wind-down habit: Even 5-10 minutes away from screens before bed can help your body settle. Where Chiropractic Fits In Chiropractic care is often part of a bigger wellness routine—especially for people who want to feel more comfortable in their everyday movement. If your spine and joints aren’t moving as freely as they could, you may feel it in your posture, your energy, and how your body handles busy weeks. Many people choose chiropractic as part of their reset because it supports how the body moves and adapts over time—without needing a major disruption to their routine. Make This Year About Feeling Supported If you’re setting goals this year, consider adding a goal that feels less like pressure and more like support: better movement, steadier posture, and a body that feels easier to live in. Curious where to start? Our team is happy to chat and share practical tips that suit your lifestyle and schedule. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/why-consistency-in-care-often-matters-more-than-intensity/ --- Why Consistency in Care Often Matters More Than Intensity Published on 17/01/2026 When people think about chiropractic care, they often picture it as something you do when you’re in pain. And while that’s a common reason to book an appointment, it’s not the only reason care can be valuable. For many patients, consistency is the key—not because you “need” constant fixing, but because the body responds best to steady support, especially when life is busy and physical stress adds up. Why the Body Likes Regular Support Your spine and joints deal with daily demands—work posture, lifting, exercise, long commutes, sleep positions, stress, and more. Even healthy bodies can develop areas of tension or reduced movement over time. When care is consistent, it helps you: Maintain better mobility Support recovery after physical strain Catch small problems before they become bigger Feel more aware of how your body is moving day to day It’s similar to how brushing your teeth works better as a habit than as a once-a-month catch-up. Consistency Doesn’t Mean “Forever” A lot of people worry that a care plan locks them into something long-term. In reality, frequency can change based on your needs, goals, and how your body responds. Some people start with more regular visits, then shift to occasional check-ins. Others prefer seasonal support—especially if they tend to feel tight during intense work periods, sport seasons, or stressful times of year. A Calmer Approach to Wellness Care The goal of chiropractic care isn’t intensity. It’s support. That might look like improving how your joints move, reducing tension patterns, and helping your body function more comfortably so you can keep doing the things you love. At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, we’ll always tailor recommendations to your body and your lifestyle. If you’re curious about what a consistent (but realistic) care rhythm could look like for you, book a visit—we’d love to help you build a plan that makes sense. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/info/newsletter-archive/ --- Newsletter Archived Issues 2026 April The Case for Chiropractic First Chiropractic Care and Your Whole-Person Health How Wearable Tech Is Changing the Way We Support Your Spine 2026 March Why Your Posture Changes When You're Stressed (And What That Does to Your Body) Why Balance Is a Skill (And How Your Spine Supports It) The Hidden Impact of Long Commutes on Your Spine 2026 February What Your Spine Has to Do With Energy Levels Why Stretching Alone Isn't Always Enough The Weekend Warrior Problem 2026 January Start Your Fitness Goals Without Starting with Pain The Fresh-Start Desk Setup Why Wellness Goals Fail (And How Your Spine Can Help Them Stick) 2025 December Your Spine's Survival Guide for Festive Travel Festive Activities Without the Aches How Your Pillow Affects Your Morning 2025 November Your Spine's Hidden Role in Stress Relief The Link Between Digestion and Spinal Health Why Balance Starts with Your Spine 2025 October The Hidden Connection Between Jaw Pain and Spinal Health The Role of Nutrition in Spinal Health and Recovery Chiropractic Care for Athletes: Beyond Injury Treatment 2025 September The Stress-Spine Connection Why Kids Bounce Back Differently Than Adults Weekend Warrior? When you’re stuck in one position for hours, spinal joints lose mobility and surrounding muscles grow fatigued trying to support you. This combination often leads to that uncomfortable “locked up” feeling when you finally stand. Before you hit the road, try these travel-friendly habits: Roll a small towel and place it behind your lower back for lumbar support. Stop every 90 minutes to walk and stretch for just 5 minutes. Adjust your seat so your knees are slightly lower than your hips. Pack a tennis ball to roll along your mid-back while resting. Safe travels start with a healthy spine. Need a pre-trip tune-up? Give us a call before you head out! Festive Activities Without the Aches This time of year brings plenty of physical activity—decorating, cooking, shopping, and hosting gatherings. While these tasks feel festive, they often involve repetitive movements, awkward positions, and lifting that your spine isn’t used to. Stay injury-free with these wellness tips: Warm up with light stretching before tackling big projects. Bend at your knees (not your back) when lifting boxes or bags. Take frequent breaks to avoid overworking the same muscle groups. Ask for help with heavy items instead of trying to manage alone. The festive season also means schedule changes and less time for your usual exercise routine. When daily movement decreases but physical demands increase, your body feels the mismatch. Pay attention to your posture during activities—whether you’re wrapping gifts on the floor or standing at the kitchen counter for hours. How Your Pillow Affects Your Morning Waking up with neck pain or a stiff back? Your pillow might be working against you. During sleep, your spine needs proper support to maintain its natural curves. The wrong pillow height or firmness can force your neck into awkward positions for 7-8 hours straight, creating tension that carries into your day. Side sleepers need a thicker pillow to fill the space between the mattress and head, keeping the neck level with the spine. Back sleepers do better with a thinner pillow that doesn’t push the head too far forward. Stomach sleeping (though not ideal) requires the flattest pillow possible—or none at all—to avoid excessive neck rotation. Your pillow should support the curve of your neck without tilting your head up or down. If you wake up needing to “crack” your neck or feeling unrested, it might be time to reassess your sleep setup. A good pillow paired with proper spinal alignment can dramatically improve sleep quality and how you feel in the morning. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-september/ --- September 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic The Stress-Spine Connection Stress isn’t only in your head—it can show up in your body too. Tight shoulders, jaw clenching, or tension headaches can all be physical signs of emotional strain. Left unchecked, this tension can gradually restrict spinal movement, creating a cycle where the body struggles to relax and heal fully. Chiropractic care can help by assessing how well the spine moves and whether restricted joints are interfering with nerve communication. When joints move freely, signals between the brain and body flow without interference, making it easier to adapt to daily challenges. Patients often report they feel lighter, calmer, or more able to handle life when their spine isn’t working against them. Stress won’t vanish overnight, but removing some of the physical tension may give your body the extra bandwidth it needs to recharge. Curious? We’d love to help-reach out to schedule a visit. Why Kids Bounce Back Differently Than Adults Children’s spines are flexible and resilient, but they’re not immune to stress. Heavy backpacks, long hours of screen time, or bumps and falls in sports can all influence posture and alignment. Kids may bounce back faster than adults, but small misalignments at an early age can create habits that affect them later. Adults, on the other hand, often recover more slowly because stress, repetitive work habits, or past injuries accumulate over time. Chiropractic care for both children and adults focuses on helping the spine move properly so the nervous system can function without interference. Encouraging healthy posture and regular spinal check-ups early in life may help protect long-term health. The habits built during childhood often carry forward, making it easier to stay active, resilient, and balanced as the years go on. Weekend Warrior? Protect Your Spine from Overdoing It If you spend weekdays behind a desk and then hit the gym, garden, or sports field hard on weekends, your body may be caught off guard. Muscles that sit dormant all week can tighten, and sudden bursts of activity on an unprepared spine increase the risk of stiffness, soreness, or recurring aches. Regular chiropractic visits may help keep your spine balanced and mobile, so your nervous system adapts more efficiently. With improved flexibility and movement, your body can handle sudden changes in activity with less resistance. Many “weekend warriors” find recovery feels easier when their spine isn’t working against them. If you want Mondays to feel less punishing after an active weekend, a little ongoing spinal maintenance could make all the difference. We’re here to help whenever you need it. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-november/ --- November 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Your Spine’s Hidden Role in Stress Relief Ever feel tense even after a long weekend or a good night’s sleep? Your spine might be part of the puzzle. When vertebrae lose mobility, your body compensates by tightening nearby muscles. This constant tension keeps your nervous system in “alert” mode—making true relaxation harder to achieve. Gentle chiropractic adjustments can help restore natural movement and reduce that built-up tension. When your spine moves the way it should, your body can switch from fight-or-flight to rest-and-recover mode more easily. You might notice fewer headaches, less shoulder tightness, and a lighter feeling overall. If you’re feeling stressed or tense, give us a call to book an appointment. We’d love the chance to see you in the practice soon and help you feel a bit more relaxed! The Link Between Digestion and Spinal Health Your spine influences much more than your posture—it may also affect how your organs function. Nerves that help control digestion pass through the mid-back region of your spine. When spinal motion becomes restricted, those nerve messages can get disrupted, sometimes contributing to bloating, sluggish digestion, or general abdominal discomfort. Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore motion and ease interference so your body can function at its best—from head to gut. When nerve communication flows freely, your digestive system can better coordinate processes like enzyme release, muscle contraction, and nutrient absorption. Combined with mindful eating, proper hydration, and gentle movement, supporting your spinal health can help your digestive system work more efficiently. Listening to your body’s signals, eating slowly, and maintaining regular chiropractic check-ins all work together to keep things moving comfortably. A well-aligned spine truly supports overall wellness—even after mealtime! Why Balance Starts with Your Spine Good posture isn’t just about standing tall—it’s about staying steady. Your spine is your body’s central support column, helping distribute weight evenly and keeping you balanced as you move through daily life. Even small spinal misalignments can throw off your equilibrium, affecting coordination and increasing your risk of slips or falls, especially as you age. Feeling out of balance? Try these simple behaviours: Stand on one foot while brushing your teeth. Take short (slow) walks on uneven ground to challenge your stabilizer muscles. Check your posture at your desk—your ears should line up with your shoulders. Chiropractic care focuses on maintaining proper spinal alignment, which helps your brain and body communicate effectively. This improved connection supports better body awareness, stability, and confidence in your movements. Whether you’re walking the dog, gardening, or practicing yoga, balance truly begins with your spine! --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-october/ --- October 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic The Hidden Connection Between Jaw Pain and Spinal Health Your jaw and spine are more connected than you might realise. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and your cervical spine work together as an integrated system, meaning problems in one area often affect the other. Poor neck posture – like forward head position from computer work – can strain the muscles that control jaw movement. This creates tension that contributes to jaw clenching, teeth grinding, and TMJ dysfunction. Conversely, jaw misalignment can force compensatory changes in neck positioning, leading to headaches and cervical spine problems. The trigeminal nerve, which controls jaw muscles, has connections throughout the upper cervical region. When this area becomes irritated, it can trigger both jaw pain and neck tension simultaneously. Care often requires addressing both areas. Chiropractic adjustments to restore proper cervical alignment may reduce jaw tension, while jaw exercises and stress reduction techniques support overall improvement. A collaborative approach between chiropractic and dental care often yields the best results! The Role of Nutrition in Spinal Health and Recovery Did you know that what you eat directly impacts your spine’s ability to heal and maintain itself? Your spinal discs, like all tissues, require specific nutrients to function optimally and repair damage from daily wear and stress. Anti-inflammatory foods form the foundation of spine-healthy nutrition. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish, walnuts, and flaxseeds help reduce inflammation around spinal joints. Colourful vegetables and fruits provide antioxidants that combat oxidative stress contributing to disc degeneration. Hydration plays a crucial role. Spinal discs are approximately 80% water and rely on adequate fluid intake to maintain their shock-absorbing properties. Even mild dehydration can affect disc height and flexibility. Key nutrients for spinal health include vitamin D and calcium for bone strength, magnesium for muscle relaxation, and vitamin C for collagen synthesis in ligaments and tendons. Protein provides amino acids necessary for tissue repair after chiropractic adjustments. Inflammatory foods like processed sugars, trans fats, and excessive refined carbohydrates can perpetuate spinal inflammation and slow healing. Chiropractic Care for Athletes: Beyond Injury Treatment Athletic performance isn’t just about strength and endurance, it’s about optimal biomechanics and nervous system function. Chiropractic care offers athletes advantages that extend far beyond treating injuries after they occur. Regular spinal adjustments can improve range of motion, enhance proprioception (body awareness), and optimise nerve communication between the brain and muscles. This leads to better coordination, faster reaction times, and more efficient movement patterns during competition. Different sports create specific spinal stresses. Golfers may develop rotational restrictions, runners often experience sacroiliac dysfunction, and swimmers may develop thoracic spine stiffness. Understanding these sport-specific patterns allows for targeted preventive care. Many professional athletes credit regular chiropractic care with extending their careers and maintaining peak performance levels throughout demanding seasons. The key is consistency – making chiropractic care part of your training regimen, not just your injury protocol. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-august/ --- August 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Healing on Pause? Your Spine Might Be Sending Mixed Signals Some people bounce back fast from a strain or sore spot. Others stay stuck in a holding pattern. If your recovery feels slower than it used to, the issue may be deeper than muscle tension; it could involve your nervous system. Your spine protects the network of nerves that carry healing signals throughout your body. But those signals can get scrambled when movement is restricted due to sitting, past injuries, or even stress. Healing still happens, but it may feel slow, incomplete, or inconsistent. During a chiropractic visit, we assess how your spine moves and look for areas where joint restrictions may interfere with nerve communication. Techniques like hands-on adjustments or gentle instrument-based care can help restore motion so your body can repair more efficiently. If you’ve been waiting for healing that just isn’t kicking in, this may be a good time to see whether your spine is adding friction to the process. Chiropractic Doesn’t Hide Discomfort, It Helps Clear the Path Discomfort is a signal, not a flaw. Whether it’s a tight neck, a dull ache in your lower back, or stiffness that shows up out of nowhere, pain is your body’s way of saying, “Pay attention here.” Quick fixes, such as anti-inflammatories or pain relief creams, may help in the short term, but they don’t explain why the issue keeps recurring. If symptoms are recurring, there’s often an underlying movement issue that’s interfering with how your body functions. Chiropractic care examines spinal motion and how it may affect the nervous system’s ability to manage stress, coordinate movement, and support healing. We use a variety of techniques to restore better alignment and reduce built-up tension. This kind of care doesn’t “treat pain”; it helps clear the interference that may be contributing to it. If your go-to solutions aren’t providing lasting relief, it might be time to examine what your spine is doing behind the scenes. Headaches, Poor Sleep, General Tension? Start with the Spine Some days, your body just feels “off.” Maybe you’re sleeping okay, eating pretty well, stretching when you can, but the tension keeps creeping back. What’s happening? One possibility is that spinal tension interferes with how your nervous system supports the rest of your body. Nerves branch out from your spine, influencing everything from muscle tone to how well you can wind down at night. If alignment is off, even slightly, it can add extra stress behind the scenes. Common signs include a headache that returns after sitting or screen time, a heavy or tense feeling in the shoulders, and restlessness or shallow sleep. These aren’t always “fixable” with posture alone. Chiropractic care focuses on improving spinal movement so that nerve signals can travel more freely without adding extra work to your body. If you’re feeling like your usual strategies aren’t cutting it, a check-in with your spine might offer some helpful clues. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-july/ --- July 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic Why Your Shoulder Pain Might Actually Be a Neck Problem That nagging shoulder pain that won’t go away? It might not be coming from your shoulder at all. Your neck and shoulder are intimately connected through a complex network of nerves, muscles, and fascia, which means problems in one area often show up as pain in another. When vertebrae in your cervical spine become misaligned or compressed, they can irritate nerves that travel down into your shoulder and arm. This creates what we call “referred pain” – discomfort that you feel in one location but actually originates somewhere else. This is why rubbing your shoulder or applying heat might provide temporary relief, but the pain keeps returning. You’re treating the symptom, not the source. Many patients initially come to Cymru Chiropractic Clinic frustrated because months of shoulder treatments haven’t helped. If your shoulder pain is accompanied by neck stiffness, headaches, or arm tingling, there’s a good chance your neck is the real culprit. The good news? Once we identify and treat the actual source, lasting relief often follows quickly. The 30-Second Desk Break That Saves Your Spine Sitting for hours creates a perfect storm of spinal compression, tight hip flexors, and rounded shoulders. But you don’t need a gym membership or even much space to counteract the damage – just 30 seconds every hour. Here’s the sequence: First, stand up and place your hands on your lower back and gently arch backward for 5 seconds, reversing the forward slouch. Then, roll your shoulders backward 5 times to open your chest and reset your posture. Finish by doing 5 gentle neck rotations in each direction to release cervical tension. The entire routine takes 30 seconds and can be done in any office setting without drawing attention. The magic happens because you’re actively reversing the positions your body has been stuck in. You’re decompressing vertebrae, opening hip flexors, and reminding your nervous system what proper alignment feels like. Set an hourly reminder on your phone – your spine will thank you. The 5-Minute Morning Routine That Preps Your Spine for the Day When you wake up in the morning, you might feel refreshed, but your spine doesn’t! After being compressed all night, try this simple 5-minute routine that activates your core muscles and improves spinal mobility before daily activities begin. Start with gentle knee-to-chest stretches while still in bed – alternate legs for 30 seconds each to wake up your lower back. Next, stand and perform 10 gentle arm circles backward to open your chest and counter forward head posture. Follow with cat-cow stretches on your hands and knees for one minute, slowly arching and rounding your spine to restore natural movement patterns. Finish with 30 seconds of gentle neck rotations and side bends. The key is moving slowly and deliberately – you’re not trying to achieve maximum range of motion, just activating sleeping muscles and encouraging spinal fluid circulation. This routine takes less time than checking your phone, but the payoff lasts all day! --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-june/ --- June 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic The Surprising Connection Between Oral Health and Chronic Pain Did you know that the health of your mouth might be linked to those persistent aches and pains? A groundbreaking study from the University of Sydney has revealed that poor oral health is significantly associated with higher instances of migraines, abdominal and body pain in women. The research identified specific oral microbes that correlate with certain pain conditions, suggesting a relationship between the bacteria in our mouths and our nervous system. This connection was particularly strong in people with fibromyalgia. What does this mean for your health journey? Taking care of your teeth and gums isn’t just about preventing cavities—it could be an important step in managing chronic pain conditions! Women with poor oral health were 60% more likely to experience moderate to severe body pain and 49% more likely to suffer from migraine headaches. At our practice, we believe in a holistic approach to wellness. While we focus on spinal health, we recognise that true wellness encompasses every aspect of your body. Consider adding regular dental check-ups to your health maintenance routine alongside your chiropractic visits! Weather and Joint Pain: Understanding Your Body’s Natural Barometer Ever notice your joints seem to “predict” weather changes? You’re not imagining it! Many people experience increased discomfort when weather patterns shift, especially during changes in barometric pressure, humidity, or temperature. When barometric pressure drops (often before rain or storms), tissues in your body may expand slightly, potentially putting pressure on joints and pain receptors. For those with existing inflammation, arthritis, or misalignments, these subtle changes can trigger noticeable discomfort. At our practice, we help patients manage weather-related pain through adjustments that optimise joint function regardless of what’s happening outside. Additionally, we recommend staying active even during uncomfortable weather changes, as movement helps distribute synovial fluid in your joints and reduces stiffness. Warming therapies like heat packs, warm baths, or gentle stretching may also provide relief during challenging weather periods. Remember, while we can’t control the forecast, we can support your body’s resilience to weather fluctuations through regular chiropractic care. Chiropractic Care for Weekend Warriors: Maximizing Performance & Recovery Are you someone who squeezes all your physical activity into the weekend? Whether it’s going for a hike, joining a rec league, or tackling intense home improvement projects, “weekend warriors” often experience unique physical challenges. Weekend-only exercise patterns can put extra stress on your body, leading to soreness, injuries, and decreased performance. Your spine and joints aren’t prepared for sudden bursts of activity after days of relative inactivity, making you more vulnerable to strains and misalignments. Regular chiropractic care can be a game-changer for weekend warriors! Adjustments throughout the week help maintain proper alignment, ensuring your body is ready when Saturday arrives. This proactive approach improves your range of motion, enhances nervous system function, and helps prevent those dreaded Monday morning aches. We recommend combining chiropractic visits with simple daily movement practices. Even brief stretching sessions during the workweek can help keep your body primed for weekend adventures. --- https://www.cymruchiropractic.co.uk/2025-may/ --- May 2025 Newsletter | Cymru Chiropractic Clinic How Different Exercise Styles Impact Your Spine Exercise is vital for spinal health, but did you know different activities affect your spine in unique ways? Swimming provides gentle decompression through buoyancy, making it ideal for herniated discs. Yoga enhances flexibility and core strength while promoting proper alignment through mindful movement. Strength training, when done correctly, builds the supportive muscles around your spine, creating a natural brace. However, improper form can strain your back—especially with weighted exercises. Walking offers accessible, low-impact movement that stimulates spinal disc nutrition through gentle compression and release. Even cycling provides cardiovascular benefits with minimal spinal impact when properly fitted to your body. The key is variation—your spine benefits from diverse movements rather than repetitive stress. Listen to your body’s feedback and adjust accordingly. Consider consulting with us before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have existing spinal concerns. Technology & Spinal Health: Wearable Tech & Apps for Better Posture Technology can both harm and help your posture. These innovative tools can help you maintain better spinal alignment throughout the day: Posture sensors like Upright Go 2 attach to your upper back and gently vibrate when you slouch, training you to maintain proper alignment. Smart clothing such as the AlignMed uses gentle compression to encourage proper shoulder position. Apps like PostureScreen Mobile analyse photos of your posture, providing assessments and improvement recommendations. For office workers, Balansit promotes “Dynamic Sitting” to combat sedentary habits, improving posture and diaphragmatic breathing—boosting focus and reducing stress. Even smartphones can help posture—set alignment reminders or use health apps to track movement. Remember, technology works best when combined with professional care and consistent awareness of body positioning. Sleep Positions & Spinal Health: Finding Your Optimal Rest The position you sleep in significantly impacts your spinal health. Back sleepers maintain the most neutral alignment, particularly with a pillow that supports the natural curve of the neck. This position distributes weight evenly, reducing pressure points. Side sleeping ranks second-best, especially with a pillow that keeps your spine horizontal from head to hips. Placing a small pillow between the knees further aligns the pelvis and lower spine. Stomach sleeping puts considerable strain on your neck and lower back as it forces unnatural rotation. If you’re committed to this position, try placing a thin pillow under your pelvis to reduce lumbar strain. Your mattress matters too—aim for medium firmness that supports while contouring to your body’s natural curves. Most importantly, notice how you feel in the morning. Waking with stiffness or pain signals a need for adjustment in your sleeping setup.

You’re experiencing what’s become known as “text neck” or “tech neck” – and it’s literally changing the structure of your spine. Your head weighs about as much as a heavy bowling ball in a neutral position. But here’s where it gets alarming: when texting on a phone, it is common to bend the head forward and look down at a 45- or 60-degree angle, which creates five times the amount of force on the neck. Think about that for a moment – you’re essentially asking your neck to support the weight of a small child every time you check your phone. Over the course of a year, this amounts to an additional 1,000 to 1,400 hours of pressure on the average smartphone user’s spine. Text neck isn’t just temporary discomfort – it’s creating lasting changes in your spinal structure. Research in the journal Ergonomics found that study participants had more forward head posture while texting compared to other smartphone tasks, such as web browsing or watching a video. This happens because texting typically requires both hands and more screen interaction, naturally pulling your shoulders forward and head down. Over time, mechanical stress in the cervical spine due to erroneous cell phone use induces poor posture and incorrect body alignment, which is associated with dysfunctional movement patterns, weak balance-ability and distorted function of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and nervous systems. The good news is that you don’t have to give up your smartphone to protect your spine. There are evidence-based strategies to reduce your risk. At Cymru Chiropractic Clinic, we see the effects of text neck regularly and can help restore proper spinal alignment before minor issues become major problems. Through targeted adjustments and personalised exercise programs, we can help reverse the damage that constant smartphone use creates. Don’t let your smartphone control your posture – take control today and schedule an appointment to learn how we can help protect your spine for years to come. 😀 Hashtags: Likes: 0 | Comments: 0 Image: https://scontent-iad6-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t39.30808-6/546168680_1379738297492190_1273423546373045067_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e15_tt6&_nc_ht=scontent-iad6-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_cat=106&_nc_oc=Q6cZ2gG_uW53xCKuU8IKsRJ23jzusBbBYjmsxIJq54WRO822nb5OystjcyxolYZ72JUQqhQ&_nc_ohc=Vnnoe52gR7kQ7kNvwGntkBB&_nc_gid=KlzdylQ4DsFjvnIxj8Ti3w&edm=APs17CUAAAAA&ccb=7-5&oh=00_Af2kHUf_IXO_qlqQiVi6bUp0yKrSyykLN5aCLZ1_Qx0TMA&oe=69F5206F&_nc_sid=10d13b URL: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOgnEQckYlF/ --- [2025-06-23T15:24:07.000Z] Image Caption: MASSAGE APPOINTMENT AVAILABLE.
